North-east community groups are being encouraged to apply for their share of a £60,000 council grant scheme.

Funding will be available for projects that demonstrate a wide benefit for locals, and show a clear vision for how they can enhance their local area.

Initiatives that will encourage young people to learn new skills are also encouraged to apply.

Through the grants from Aberdeenshire Council’s Buchan Area Committee, £62,500 is available.

Payments of up to £10,000 or 80% of the project cost, whichever is lesser, are available.

Last year’s scheme was hailed  a success after it helped to fund 20 projects which boosted lives across the area.

Diane Tait, of Buchan Development Partnership, which administers the contributions, said:  “The funding successfully delivered a wide variety of community projects.

“That included worker development time to deliver support and training to young people, improvement of local facilities and halls – including a contribution towards solar panels to improve sustainability – and part of the funding towards a minibus.

“This year the Buchan Area Committee hope to support even more groups with innovative ideas for projects”

The closing date for applications is May 31. Groups wishing to apply for the grants must be constituted and must be able to provide financial records.
