Turriff and District Pipe Band is raising money for NHS Grampian  during the coronavirus pandemic with its first published collection of pipe tunes.

The Turra Coo Collection, a book of more than 60 original tunes, has been released by the grade 3A competition and community band.

“This is the very first collection of original compositions from the band in nearly 100 years of existence,” said pipe major Andrew Gray.

“I realised soon into lockdown that a lot of friends had great compositions, but not necessarily enough to have a collection of their own.

“The extra time in lockdown meant we were in a position to put the book together,  which has been a great experience.

“We’re trying to raise as much money for the NHS as we can during the covid pandemic.”

With pipe tunes written by both members and friends of the band, as well as world championship winning pipers from of Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia and Inveraray and District pipe bands, the collection has already landed through letter boxes across Europe.

“We’ve received quite a few orders which has been great,” added Mr Gray, who is a piping teacher with Aberdeenshire Council.

“The books have gone all over the UK as well as quite a few abroad, including America, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Holland and Italy.

“We’re now in a position that every penny will go to charity, which is great.”

The Turra Coo Collection costs £14 and is available to buy online, from www.turriff-district-pipe-band.myshopify.com.
