North-east haulage firm says 25-tonne tanker is its biggest delivery of the year

The abnormal load traveled between Peterhead to Ellon.
The abnormal load traveled between Peterhead to Ellon.

A north-east haulage company undertook its most mammoth challenge of the year as it ferried a 25 tonne piece of equipment from a north-east port to a growing brewery.

Colin Lawson Transport was tasked with delivering a fermenting tank to the Brewdog base on the outskirts of Ellon from Peterhead.

The journey meant that the A90 Ellon to Peterhead road had to be sealed off in both directions for more than an hour yesterday morning and the mission required five police escort vehicles.

The 25ft wide and 60ft long fermenting tank is the bulkiest “abnormal load” which the firm has had to transport this year.

Speaking aftewrwards, owner of the transport firm, Colin Lawson, said the delivery which “took months of planning” was “a job well executed”.

He said: “All parties involved including police, Aberdeenshire Council and  Bear Scotland all worked well together.”

The haulage truck left Peterhead at 8am and arrived in Ellon before 10am.

Police had advised motorists to plan a different route while the load was being transported between the two towns.

Brewdog is carrying out a large expansion project at its Balmacassie site.

Meanwhile, a driver was taken to hospital following a one-car crash near Tarves yesterday afternoon.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene, just to the east of Tolquhon Castle on the B999 Tarves to Aberdeen road, at about 2.10pm.

A silver Peugeot was involved and came to a stop in a field.
