Former pupils of Fraserburgh Academy who got together for a class reunion have donated hundreds of pounds to the local lifeboat volunteers.
The Class of ’83 reunion committee visited the town’s lifeboat station on Shore Street to hand over a donation of £680.
Old friends Angela Campbell, Debbie-Ann Ritchie, Alison Slessor, Ian Reid and Steven Mackie organised the get together of former academy pupils who were in the fourth year in 1983.
The reunion was held at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre and included a meal and a 80s-themed disco from local councillor and DJ Brian Topping.
The organising committee reached out to their former classmates on social media and local radio, and got a “fantastic response”.
The money which was left over from expenses and raffles on the night added up to £680, and the group agreed the local lifeboat crew was a worthy cause.
Mr Reid said: “The lifeboat was the obvious choice.
“We’re from Fraserburgh, we’ve all got connections in one way or another to the fishing industry and we’ve all grown up knowing the part it plays in the community.”
Lifeboat coxswain Victor Sutherland, who received the donation on behalf of his brave volunteers, said: “It’s very much appreciated, and thank you for thinking of us and thanks to everyone who contributed.
“All the money received from the Class of ’83 Reunion will go to help us save lives at sea.”
Last weekend Mr Sutherland and his crew hosted the annual Fraserburgh Lifeboat Open Day to raise funds and awareness of the work the volunteers do.
