A north-east town has reacted angrily after washing machines and a fridge freezer were dumped at a beauty spot.
The white goods turned up on Sunday in the Broadsea area of Fraserburgh – a popular walking spot and lookout for the port’s locals – within close proximity to a council skip.
Residents have branded the action as reckless, with the doors and locks on each of the washing machines in working order.
There were fears youngsters could climb into the machines and get stuck. And last night, the town’s safety group called on people to employ commonsense and stop people throwing away rubbish.
Chairman Brian Topping said: “People really have got to take some civic pride in their town – this kind of thing is extremely dangerous and thoughtless.
“The recycling centre is just yards away and I can’t see why anyone would do this kind of thing. They could have come back when it was open or, for a modest fee, had the council collect it.
“To me, it’s beyond belief. They are littering our lovely environment. Regardless of where your town or village is, you should try to make an effort to keep it clean.”
Mr Topping has now called for local people to report anything they may know about fly-tipping to the police.
The councillor, who organises an annual beach clean in his community, said: “We have to make the best of what we have. Not only for tourists, but for ourselves.
“If these people had fridge freezers or litter dumped in their garden, I’m not sure they would like it – they would probably be very upset.”
Earlier in the week, a three-piece sofa was dumped near the recycling centre.
