A lifeboat crew was called into action twice on Monday as they raced to save boats in danger off the north-east coast.
Peterhead Lifeboat’s crew barely had time to change and go home after being called into action to help a boat off the village of Boddam on April 23 before their pagers sounded again.
The crew, who are all volunteers, offer their time like those in stations across Aberdeenshire, helping keep people safe at sea in all conditions.
And to start off their week, the Misses Robertson of Kintail was ordered by the Coastguard to go to the assistance of a creel boat which had lost power near Boddam.
It launched at 4.14pm to meet up with the boat and to tow it back into the port. The operation took about an hour to complete.
But within two hours of returning home, the crew were again requested to don their life jackets and head back out onto the North Sea.
At 7pm, the Coastguard was alerted by another vessel – again off the coast of Boddam – which had also lost power.
The tiny pleasure craft, the Emma Lesley, was floating adrift about five miles from the harbour when the lifeboat arrived on the scene.
The vessel was towed back to safety and the crew was eventually stood down for the night at 8.25pm.
Following the rescue efforts, a spokesman for the station launched a call for those who want to join the team to make contact.
He said: “Peterhead Lifeboat is always interested to hear from anyone wishing to help save lives at sea by joining the fundraising team or the crew.
“If you think you have some spare time to help raise funds to save lives at sea, or you have what it takes to be a member of the lifeboat crew, then please contact us.”
