This week, we take a look through the archives at the Aberdeen Milk Marathon.
It will be a familiar sight to those who lived in Aberdeen during the 1980s, running – pardon the pun – between 1979 and 1990.
Vehicle traffic was replaced for one day every year with hundreds of runners in the city.
The race took in parts of the Granite City that are still somewhat recognisable to modern eyes with the Beach Ballroom and Holburn Street featured in our gallery.
The marathon, a 26.2-mile race, offered participants a good way to raise cash for charities and motivation to exercise.
1983 – The mass start of the Aberdeen Milk Marathon makes its way up Beach Boulevard.

1984 – James Farquhar is helped to the first aid tent by race officials.
1983 – Wheelchair entrant Brian Charlton, 39, travelled up from Newcastle with mascot Super Geordie ahead of their 50th event of that year.
1983 – Lynda Bain from Newmacher crosses the finish line as the clear winner of the women’s race
1983 – Marathon runners on Riverside Drive.
1985 – DJ Mike Holloway at the finish line after raising £2,500 for Aberdeen maternity Hospital’s Special Nursery appeal.
1981 – George Reynolds of Elgin arrives at the finish line.
1983 – Stephen Wells (858) and Ian Ross (1069) try to keep cool with sponges at the watering point on Great Western Road.
1986 – Killoh, 37, Bill Coutts, 30, John Simmers, 37, Steven Willox, 25, and Jim Coutts, 27, of Portlethen firm W. A. Donald and Son pose with the team trophy they won the previous year.
1987 – Runners leave from the Beach Ballroom.
1985 – Brothers Derek and Andrew Milne cross the finish line together.
1984 – Marathon winner Mark Burnhope raises his arms in celebration as he crosses the finish line.
1987 – Englishman Ian Corrin crosses the finish line in first place.
