Former Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass is set to make his return to the dugout – after agreeing to become head coach of United States second tier side Memphis 901 FC.

Memphis say Glass – who left the Dons in February after less than a season in charge  – has penned a “multi-year contract” with the club.

Glass told the USL Championship club’s website: “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to come to Memphis and look forward to building on the success that was enjoyed last year.

“There is a great group of players returning who I am sure are hungry to give the fans many more nights like those enjoyed last season.

“I look forward to seeing everyone at AutoZone Park in 2023.”

Before taking the reins at Aberdeen, where he had a successful spell as a player in the 1990s, including winning the Coca-Cola Cup in 1995, Glass managed Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship.

His time in charge at Aberdeen was disappointing, though, with the Dons winning just 13 of his 40 matches in charge.

He was axed following a Scottish Cup fifth-round defeat to Motherwell, and replaced by Jim Goodwin in the Pittodrie hotseat.

Memphis 901 FC sporting director Tim Howard – the long-serving former Everton and US national team goalkeeper – said: “We, as a club, couldn’t be more excited for what Stephen will bring to 901 FC.

“His knowledge of the American soccer landscape, as well as his international managerial experience, will allow us to continue to build on our recent success.

“It has been satisfying to not only land our top target, but to know how eager Stephen is to get to work.”

Memphis finished second in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference last term, before exiting the play-offs at the semi-final stage.
