Elgin City manager Gavin Price hopes his side’s memorable Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup victory over Dundee can trigger a strong run of League 2 form.
The Black and Whites return to league action away to Stirling Albion today, fresh from coming from behind to defeat the Dark Blues 2-1 on Sunday to reach the last-16 of the cup.
Price hopes the result can give his players the belief they need to launch a charge to finish in the play-off positions this season.
Price said: “It’s a huge result for the club, and hopefully one that spurs the players on.
“It’s a result we thoroughly deserved over the 90 minutes, it was not a smash and grab or anything like that.
“We’ve got to take confidence from that and hopefully bring it into the league which is the bread and butter and the most important focus.
“Hopefully we can use this as a springboard to hopefully get that consistency in the league and get the points that hopefully get us into the top-four positions where we ultimately want to be.”
Elgin sit seventh in the table after only five games, but Price feels the current standing is harsh on his side, adding: “We believe we’ve got a good side this year and we’ve got a good chance to do well.
“We’ve been a wee bit unlucky in the last two games against two of the stronger opponents in the league in Queen’s Park and Edinburgh City. I believe we could easily have taken six points from those two games.
“Unfortunately we took two, which is quite harsh on where we are, but we’ve got to now try and get the points we feel our play merits.”
Today’s opponents are still searching for their first points of the campaign, with Elgin running out 3-0 winners when they faced the Binos during the Betfred Cup group campaign earlier this season.
Price, who has on-loan Forfar Athletic striker Matthew Aitken back in contention, is taking nothing for granted against Kevin Rutkiewicz’s side, and he added: “They are a team who will probably feel they have been hard done by in terms of their points they have got this season. They have had a lot of narrow defeats, and they had two players sent off in their last game when they were 1-0 up.
“We are under no illusions it’s going to be a difficult game. They are going to be desperate for the points.
“It’s going to be the case that we are going to need to repeat the level of performance we had on Sunday to go and do the business at Forthbank.”
