The right-back has entered the final six months of his deal at Inverness and is free to talk to other clubs. Dundee were also keen to sign the former Queen of the South player but it is understood St Johnstone are set to win the race for Rooney’s signature. Former Caley Jags defender Jamie McCart made his debut for the Perth Saints during Wednesday’s night’s 3-0 defeat by Celtic at McDiarmid Park. St Johnstone have also been linked with a loan move for Stoke City midfielder Lasse Sorensen.
