Limousin females sold to a top of 20,000gn at the Red Ladies Derby show and sale held in Carlisle.

The 32 served or maiden heifers sold to average £3,863.67.

Leading the sale was the reserve champion Sarkley Odelisha, from the Pennie family’s herd near Powys, Wales. This was a 16-month-old daughter of Sarkley Jaguar, out of the Powerhouse Elite-sired Sarkley Jilisha. She sold to the Corries, Newtonards, Northern Ireland.

Ian Miller, of Miller Farms, North Lurg, Midmar, paid 8,500gn for the first prize heifer Annanview Olala, from Kevin Watret, Annan, Dumfriesshire. The first embryo female to be sold out of the 12,000gn Tweeddale Harika dam, she is by Kilcor Iceman.

Aberdeenshire breeders Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone, and Johnathon Watson, Tweeddale, Bowsden Moor, went to 8,000gn for Smithy Olympia from the Smith family, Jacobstow, Bude.

Born in April 2018, this ET heifer is by Plumtree Fantastic, out of Smithy Lacey, which won six inter-breed titles last year.

Next best at 6,800gn was the supreme champion from Breconside Farming, Breconside Tower, Moffat.

Selling in a two-way split to Broadhead Limousins, Yorkshire, and Fieldstone Limousins, Lincolnshire, was the 20-month-old heifer by Netherall Jackpot.

Stirlingshire breeders Robert and Jean Graham, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan, received 6,200gn from JR Kent and Son, Mendham, Norfolk. This was for Grahams Orla, a March 2018-born heifer by Claragh Gustav.

Meanwhile, Mike and Melanie Alford’s Foxhillfarm herd near Devon, produced the top price of 9,000gn in the weaned calf sale.

Their sale topper was the first-prize heifer calf Foxhillfarm Priceless, an 11-month-old ET calf by Objat and bred from the 120,000gn Glenrock Illusion. She sold to Nugent Estate Northern Ireland.

The Rhind family, Newton of Struthers, Kinloss, purchased two March-born heifer calves from the Pennie’s Sarkley herd. Dearest at 3,500gn was March 2019-born Sarkley Petrina, by Ampertaine Elgin, while the other at 2,100gn was Sarkley Penrietta, by the French sire Gamin. In all, 20 bull calves averaged £2,583 and 29 heifer calves levelled at £2,634.05.
