An Aberdeen teenager is heading off to university in the United States after landing three A grades in his Advanced Highers.
Kai Crawford achieved top marks in maths, mechanics and physics which he added to his maths, physics, chemistry, human biology and PE Highers from last year.
The Albyn School pupil is swapping life in the Granite City for the University of Alabama.
Kai will go on to study aerospace engineering in the southern state.
Preparing to say goodbye
He is looking forward to leaving Albyn School, having started there in Primary One.
Kai said he has had a “great experience” and that he will miss the school after saying goodbye forever.
He said: “I’ve had a great experience at Albyn School and will definitely miss it. I was given so many opportunities at the school, both academic and co-curricular. I made a strong group of friends, some of whom I have known since Primary One and will definitely stay in touch with them.
“I’m really pleased with my results. I feel like I can relax now and look forward to the new environment and meeting lots of new people at the University of Alabama. I’m ready for a new challenge.”
Kai has secured an academic scholarship to study at the University of Alabama.
The keen athlete will also be part of the Alabama track and field team having won gold medals in the 800 metres at the UK School Games and Scottish under-17 Championships.
Exam success for Albyn
According to figures supplied by the school, 93% of Albyn pupils secured A or B grades at National 5. Eighteen gained all As.
When it came to Highers, 92% of youngsters passed with A or B grades. Thirty-six pupils secured all As in their Highers.
For Advanced Higher, 76% of pupils secured A or B grades.
Albyn School’s head teacher Stefan Horsman said: “I want to congratulate all our pupils on these excellent results. In this first year back with a full diet of exams, we are delighted with the achievements of our pupils.
“Their hard work over the last few years given all the disruption they have experienced has really paid off, and has led to these fantastic results across the board.
“We are delighted that almost all pupils have achieved their first choice of university or college course.
“To see the pupils heading on to their next stage successful and happy is an absolute pleasure for us, and for all the teachers whose hard work has also been immense over the past two years.”
