Alison MacRae, from the Isle of Lewis, attended her graduation ceremony at a later date than originally intended.

Her first ceremony collided with her father carrying the torch at the Commonwealth Games in July. After watching his big moment she held off and graduated yesterday in the Elphinstone Hall.

The man who led to the delay, dad Alasdair, was there for his daughter’s ceremony alongside mother Catherine.

The former Nicolson Institute student graduated with an LLB degree in law, which took just two years as she opted for an accelerated programme.

She had previously obtained an MA in Celtic Studies from the same seat of learning.

Her time at university saw lots of extra-curricular achievements. She played a role in the administration team of the 2014 production of Willie Wonkie and the Fine Piece Factory and was president of the Treading the Boards Musical Theatre Society.

She was also awarded the Scotland the What prize for her performance in Spital Shop of Horrors in 2013.

She said: “I’m relieved and happy, I’m glad it’s over. I’m glad to have it finished quickly.”

During her final year at university she worked with the Peterson oil and gas company, where she will continue after graduation.

She said: “I’m in oil and gas just now but I don’t know where tomorrow will take me.”
