Time is running out to submit entries for pedigree sheep and cattle for this year’s Aberdeen Christmas Classic.

The event, now in its 25th year, takes place at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on Monday, November 27, and Tuesday, November 28.

Organised by Aberdeen and Northern Marts (ANM) in conjunection with the Aberdeen Fatstock Association, the event comprises shows and sales of prime cattle and sheep, pedigree beef bulls, Texel, Suffolk and Beltex sheep, and the Rising Stars Exhibition Calf Show.

A prize pot worth £16,000 is on offer across all classes.

The deadline for pedigree entry forms is Monday at 5pm, and all other entries must be submitted by Monday, November 13.

ANM Group executive director John Gregor said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Christmas Classic this year and encourage all interested to submit their pedigree entries well ahead of the deadline on Monday.

“Our team is also pleased to be working with the Press and Journal as the event’s official media partner and grateful for the continued support of NorthLink Ferries as the main sponsor.

“We look forward to this fantastic show and sale of top-quality livestock and welcoming everyone at Thainstone Centre in November.”

At last year’s pedigree bull sale a young farmer from Huntly achieved the top price of 6,000gn with a home-bred Charolais bull.

March-2015 born Inchcorsie Ludo was put forward by Anna Robertson of Lower Inchcorsie, Rothiemay. He sold to Farquharson Farms, Darley, Fyvie, Turriff.

Meanwhile, Texels led the charge in the pedigree sheep section with a gimmer selling for the top price of 4,200gn.

Put forward by Robbie Wilson, who runs the Milnbank flock at North Dorlaithers, Turriff, the home-bred gimmer was by Strathbogie Untouchable son Milnbank Van Wilder and out of a dam by Millar’s Outstanding. In-lamb to the £60,000 Strathbogie Yes Sir, she sold to Steven Smith, The Byre, Sunnyhill Croft, Turriff.
