A north-east family is seeing double this week as both their children graduate from Aberdeen University.
Yesterday Stephanie-Lynn Milligan, from Peterhead, followed in her parents’ footsteps when she collected her law degree.
On Friday, it will be big brother William’s turn when six years of study culminate in him being awarded a medical degree.
Parents Marianne and Sam, who are both lawyers, own family legal firm Sam Milligan and Co, which has offices in both the Blue Toon and the Broch.
Stephanie-Lynn, who went to Peterhead Academy, plans to spend the summer doing a work placement at the family firm but will return to Aberdeen University to compete her law diploma in September.
She has not yet decided whether she will eventually join the family firm and pursue a career in criminal law, or whether she will do commercial law.
Sadly, dad Sam missed her graduation ceremony when he was called away at the last minute to attend to a client.
However she was joined by her mum and brother, and grandparents Ann and Robert Stephen.
The whole family will enjoy a joint graduation party at the Marcliffe Hotel on Saturday.
Mrs Milligan said: “My husband and I are so proud of what they have achieved.”
Stephanie-Lynn said: “I really enjoy helping people and the law degree will give me an opportunity to do that.
“It gives other people a voice and it is also really interesting.
“I have really enjoyed university and it has been a really sociable experience.
“It has also been a great support having my big brother there at the same time.
“The teaching has been really great and you get such a lot of support.”
Stephanie-Lynn was also involved in the Aberdeen Law Project which offers free legal advice to those who can’t afford to pay for it.
She said: “It has been really interesting and has given me hands-on experience which you cannot get in work placements.”
