A prominent north-east artist has unveiled his latest creation to help raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Malcolm Appleby revealed the new design for the Banchory Bangle, which will be auctioned off later this year.

Mr Appleby has been producing the bangles for 40 years, all in aid of Children First. And, as the decades have passed, the items have amassed more than £130,000 to support local children and young people.

Last year’s otter-themed bangles raised over £11,000 and Mr Appleby said this year’s design, which features a heron, was inspired by his love of nature.

He added: “From childhood, I was constantly enthralled by the wildlife around my suburban home which so enriched my upbringing. I love to pass this enthusiasm on to new generations of children.”

His coveted jewellery will be auctioned at the Touch of Tartan Ball on November 18.

Juliette Paton, patron of the event, said: “We have been very fortunate to have the talent and generosity of Dr Appleby for 40 years.

“His dedication to producing the Banchory Bangle has raised a huge amount of much-needed funds for Children First, and we are incredibly grateful to him and everyone involved in the Banchory Bangle for their wonderful support.

“It is thanks to people like them that we are able to continue supporting vulnerable children and their families in the north-east.”

Raffle tickets are £1 each and are available to purchase throughout outlets in Banchory, including Duncans, Deeside Cleaners, and Taylors of Banchory, and at the Children First office in Aberdeen.

First prize in the raffle is the 18-carat gold bangle plus a silver replica, second prize is a silver copy and third prize is a pair of cufflinks.

To book a table at the ball, contact the Children First team at northfundraising@children1st.org.uk or call: 01224 251 150.
