Can you help the north-east’s most vulnerable families this Christmas?

Organisers of a festive appeal have made an urgent call for donations to fill its food hampers.

The Peterhead and Fraserburgh Gift Tree Appeal provides local families and individuals across the north-east with help and support during the festive period.

And last year, generosity from businesses and families meant 360 much-needed food hampers were issued to some of the needy people in the region.

Peterhead Projects is helping to coordinate the appeal this year.

Manager Ken Duncan said: “Our business community has, in the past, been very supportive of our fundraising appeal for food hampers.

“Peterhead Port Authority and Buchanhaven Harbour Committee have been quick off the mark this year with generous donations, but we urgently need more financial support if we are to meet demand.

“Alternatively, if any businesses wish to host an in-house food drive to accept donated items we would be delighted to hear from them to bolster our collections.”

A number of schools, churches and community groups are supporting the appeal once again, and the offer of hosting a food drive has been extended to the wider community.

Meanwhile, gift trees with tags will begin appearing later this month as companies and community facilities gear up for Christmas.

The appeal involves members of the public selecting a tag from one of the trees then buying just one extra gift during their Christmas shopping – up to the value of £10 – for vulnerable children or young adults.

The gifts can include toys, books, clothes and toiletries.
