Man robbed within grounds of historic Aberdeenshire castle

Fyvie Castle.
Fyvie Castle.

A man has been robbed within the grounds of a popular Aberdeenshire castle.

The victim was approached by two men in at Fyvie Castle around 10:30am on Monday and forced to hand over a personal item and a small amount of money.

Police have appealed for information and want to trace the two men.

Both are described as being white, around 6ft tall and of slim build with shaved, dark-coloured hair.

They are also said to have been in their early to mid twenties, have local accents and were wearing dark coloured tracksuits with one of the men in possession of a silver bicycle.

Detective Sergeant, Martyn Thomson, was keen to reassure the public.

He said: “Crimes of this nature are extremely rare in this particular area and I can provide every assurance that the public’s safety is our main priority.

“Thankfully no one was hurt during the incident.

“An investigation is underway and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time in question and saw anything suspicious to contact police.”

A spokesperson for the National Trust for Scotland said it was “very surprised” by the incident.

She said: “We have never heard of any incident like this taking place at Fyvie Castle before.

“We are obviously pleased that there doesn’t seem to have been any serious injuries and would urge anyone with information to contact the police.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if they would prefer to remain anonymous.
