Plans have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council to convert a derelict building in a north-east town centre into homes.
The scheme, which will bring a dilapidated storehouse in Fraserburgh’s Love Lane back into use as two flats, has been lodged by Peterhead company, Kevin O’Brien Architects.
The building has sat unused for about a decade before being bought by estate agents Solaris Properties.
In a design statement, which accompanied the proposal, a spokesman for the architects confirmed the flats will both be self-contained two-bedroom properties.
He added there would be “minimal” external alterations.
An existing door to the property, once used for vehicles, will be removed and replaced and the building will be finished in wet-dash.
“[We] are therefore confident that the scheme as proposed can be supported,” he said.
The development falls within Fraserburgh’s conservation zone, meaning that approval would be dependent on the project “positively contributing” to the town centre.
The architects have argued they are “satisfied” that it would.
However, no future use for the flats has yet been confirmed.
The plans instead indicate that they could be used for social rent or private sale for single people, couples or small families.
Yesterday, community councillor David Donn said: “Obviously, the community council welcomes any regeneration project that will bring back a building or bring something new into the town.
“But I haven’t seen the specific details of this planning application, and, until I do, I wouldn’t like to comment on it.”
The scheme has been announced as Aberdeenshire Council continues to progress with plans to reinvigorate Fraserburgh through its 2021 regeneration project.
The local authority wants to refurbish historic buildings across the town centre – including the port’s former police station which will become the new “face” of the council – and last month launched a small grant scheme for local business owners.
It is hoped that the project, valued at £5.8million, will improve the town centre for local people and visitors.
