Handyman allegedly murdered at north-east home suffered multiple injuries

A total of eight men have been charged in connection with Clampett's death.
A total of eight men have been charged in connection with Clampett's death.

A handyman found dead after a disturbance at a north-east house suffered serious head, chest and leg wounds.

Gary Clampett’s body was discovered at a house in Fraserburgh’s Fernie Place in the early hours of Sunday, June 18.

A massive investigation was launched, and so far eight people have been charged in connection with the 39-year-old dad’s murder.

Last night, Mr Clampett’s death certificate revealed he died as a result of significant injuries to his chest, leg and head.

And the time of death was recorded as 4.28am, shortly after paramedics and police arrived at the scene following reports of shouts, screams and banging.

Detectives sealed off the cul-de-sac and began door-to-door inquiries while forensic officers examined the flat. Clad in white body suits, boots, gloves and masks – the officers were spotted going in and out of two homes.

A total of eight men have now been charged with the handyman’s murder, with six also accused of the attempted murder of two other people.

David Graham, 45, John Henderson, 46, Thomas Martin, 44, Joseph Martin, 39, Gary Martin, 36, and 31-year-old Barry Martin face a charge of murder and two of attempted murder.

James Connor, 61, and Dean Leech, 24, are charged with acting alongside the gang in murdering Mr Clampett. All eight have now appeared on petition in court, and made no plea or declaration. They were remanded in custody.

Mr Clampett, lived at Logie Avenue West in the north-east village of Crimmond, and is believed to have moved to the area about two years ago to be with his family and set up a handyman business.

He only married his wife, Sharon Graham, last summer and the pair recently welcomed a baby daughter.

In a post online, fish filleter Ms Graham said “no words can describe” how she is feeling in the wake of her “darling” husband’s death while her son, Gordon, described him as a “legend” who he would “miss to bits”.

Mr Clampett’s funeral will be held in Glenrothes on Monday.

The Graham family has been repeatedly struck by tragedy. They moved to the north-east from Glenrothes in 1994 but just four years later dad Gordon was allegedly murdered in a flat fire.

Ms Graham’s 18-year-old brother Dean was found dead in a flat in the north-east port three years later.

And then in 2002 her eldest brother, James, died aged just 26 after a car crash near Rosehearty.
