A councillor has raised concerns over plans to regenerate Peterhead’s town centre claiming they are behind schedule.
A report previously produced by consultants Pidgin Perfect as part of the Choose Peterhead scheme set out a five year plan for the proposals.
It set out a strategy to upgrade the area from Buchan House to Arbuthnot House from July 2016 through to July 2021.
Now Peterhead South and Cruden councillor Stephen Calder has called for officials to provide more information on the project.
He told yesterday’s meeting of the Buchan area committee he is worried efforts to transform Peterhead were falling behind.
Councillor Calder said: “Unfortunately, this programme has fallen considerably behind schedule and, apart from the newly launched brief for Drummer’s Corner, little of the programme is as yet in the pipeline.
“It is essential that a project team is put in place to deliver this programme of regeneration, with input from all the relevant departments with the right specialist skills, and with the proper scrutiny of the local councillors.”
Peterhead North and Rattray councillor Anne Allan agreed and said she would also like to be given updates on the progress of the project.
She said: “We are not after a full report at every committee meeting.
“What I would expect would be a one side of A4 paper with a tables and a update to give us a rough idea of what is going on.
“It would be to keep us informed on a regular basis.”
But councillor Ian Sutherland rejected the call and said the material was already in the public domain.
He said: “All the information is available in the minutes of each meeting of the Peterhead Development Partnership website.”
Councillors voted to rejected Councillor Calder’s call, but Buchan area manager Chris White said he would send out the minutes of the Peterhead Development Committee meetings to committee members.
