Man flashed elderly friend from church leaving her ‘disgusted’

Steven Skinner, 69, will be under supervision for 18 months.
Steven Skinner, 69, will be under supervision for 18 months.

A pensioner has been placed under supervision after flashing at a woman in her 80s he met in church.

Steven Skinner exposed himself to his frail victim when she invited him in to her home for a coffee.

The shocked woman later told police she was “disgusted” by the incident.

The 69-year-old admitted the offence, which took place on July 4, during an earlier appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where he returned yesterday to be sentenced.

The court heard the pair developed a friendship through attending the same church, with Skinner taking her for lunch and shopping trips prior to the incident.

On the morning of the offence Skinner had been invited to the property to return a jacket she had left in his car.

Fiscal depute Katie Murray told the court: “The accused sat down on the sofa and, upon the complainer returning with his coffee she observed him to have his genitals exposed.

“She instructed him to leave and raised the alarm with a warden.

“She later told police that she was upset and alarmed by his behaviour and that it was completely disgusting and wrong.”

Representing Skinner, defence agent Alex Burn said the incident in question was a “misreading of the situation” by his client.

He also said that a report had highlighted a number of issues and asked for his client to be given a community payback order with probation saying “that is a way of supporting him.”

Sheriff Ian Wallace placed Skinner, of Monach Terrace, under supervision for 18 months and also ordered him to take part in the joint sexual offenders programme during this period.
