Motorists on the A90 were left facing lengthy delays yesterday as a series of collisions brought chaos to the north-east’s busiest road.
Three separate collisions unfolded on sections of the carriageway as thousands headed to work, leaving the road blocked for motorists heading to and from the city.
The lengthiest tailbacks of the day were experienced after a three vehicle collision on the road between Newtonhill and Portlethen, near to the Lairhillock junction, at about 7.30am.
It involved an articulated lorry, a van and a car and resulted in lengthy delays for some unfortunate drivers.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene alongside paramedics and two casualties were subsequently transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Police officers remained on the scene for some time to deal with the increased level of traffic.

The road remained blocked to northbound traffic until around 10am due to the positioning of the lorry involved.
Meanwhile, minutes after that accident, motorists heading towards Aberdeen were faced with their second hurdle of the morning following a two vehicle crash on the Ellon road at Bridge of Don.
That accident, just after 8am, involved a Mini Cooper and a Renault Megane and left the road blocked to traffic heading towards the city.
One motorists who began his daily commute from Fraserburgh shortly after 7.30am spoke of the level of chaos in the wake of the accident.
He and others found themselves snarled-up in queues so long it took three-and-a-half hours to reach the city.
The driver said: “I left Fraserburgh shortly after 7.30am and got caught up in the delays on Ellon Road an hour later.
“Traffic there was almost at a complete standstill for an hour, with some people getting out of their cars to look to see what was going on.
“Two cars were at the side of the road that looked like they had been involved in a crash, although the road itself wasn’t closed.
“Combined with the filming at the beach, which forced everyone through the centre of Aberdeen, and struggling to find a parking space thanks to – presumably – Black Friday shoppers, I didn’t make into work until 11am.”
The third collision of the day took place on the A90 southbound slip road near Stonehaven around 11.45am, leaving the Southbound carriageway on the Den of Logie Road closed to motorists for some time.
Police were soon on the scene. No-one was injured.
