Rosehearty Bowling Club could be handed a funding boost

A north-east bowling club could be handed a funding boost by councillors next week.

Rosehearty Bowling Club have applied to the Aberdeenshire Charities Trust (ACT) for money to allow them to build a dozen lockers to be used by disabled players and visitors.

They have asked for £580 so they can install the new storage at their Pitsligo Street headquarters.

The money would go towards providing disabled people with lower lockers so they can be easily accessed.

It would also mean visiting players would not leave their equipment lying on the floor creating a safety hazard.

The club hope to buy 12 lockers to help with these issues.

A council report on the funding bid said: “The funding will allow the club to increase storage capacity so that infirm or disabled members can be allocated a lower locker.

“At the moment, bowls used by visitors are lying on the clubhouse floor causing a safety hazard to all users. The purchase of 12 lockers would alleviate this problem.

“The club’s constitution states that ‘the membership of the club and its facilities is open to all without discrimination’ and provision of lockers would ensure that people who are infirm or disabled have equal opportunities.”

Members of the Banff and Buchan area committee will discuss the application on Tuesday.
