A week of events has been planned to mark the opening a multi-million pound community centre in Aberdeen.

The Tillydrone Community Campus will be officially opened on Friday August 23 but ahead of that there will be a family fun day on Tuesday 20.

And there will be taster sessions and activities planned for the Wednesday and Thursday too.

Care organisation The Lighthouse, which works with disadvantaged and vulnerable people, and charity M26 are among the local causes moving into the centre alongside a number of council services.

The £6 million facility will also include a library, creche, cafe, classrooms and space for activities.

The city council put £4.1 million towards the complex while the remaining costs were covered by the Scottish Government.

Aberdeen City Council regeneration spokesman Gordon Graham said: “It is good local people have helped to plan these fun events to celebrate the hard work they’ve put in to bring together this fantastic new venue.

“The Tillydrone Community Campus will perform an important role in the area by providing support and improving the quality of life for many residents.

“It will also be a centre for fun and learning.

“The new facility is one of several transformational events for Tillydrone, which are designed to help regenerate the area to show it is a great place to live and work, including a new school and additional affordable housing.”
