An Aberdeen man has been jailed for two years after being caught with a cocaine stash worth tens of thousands of pounds in his family home.
Police raided Darryl Senior’s home in Northfield in May, discovering a haul of the Class A drug worth an estimated £63, 700 in a safe in his bedroom.
Fiscal depute Anna Chisholm told Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday that the 447.5g of cocaine could fetch that sort of sum, “if sold in the regular quantities”.
His wife, three children, and teenage niece were all in the property when police carried out the early-morning raid.
Officers found two stashes of the drug, including a smaller quantity in a bag in his room.
Ms Chisholm said police had found what they had concluded was an intended cutting agent upstairs in the loft.
Specially-trained officers were drafted in to crack open the safe in Senior’s home – which the 39-year-old’s solicitor said contained drugs belonging to a third party.
David Sutherland told the court: “My client had no access to the safe.
“The drugs within it comprised a large part of the weight of cocaine referred to.
“Those were what those higher up the chain gave him to clear his drug debt.
“My client only supplied a close circle of friends to clear that.”
Sheriff Andrew Miller told Senior, a former drug user himself, that he “must be aware of the damage Class A drugs cause” in the community and jailed him for two years.
