WATCH: Aberdeenshire pupils keep community spirit alive with lockdown video

Pupils from Fettercairn Primary and Nursery School are sending a positive message and keeping spirits up during the coronavirus lockdown by producing a short video.

The three minute production has pupils, aged three to 11, pass a toilet roll from one to another in some peculiar situations.

Some of the children showcase their gymnastic talents with cartwheels and trampoline flips, while others use tennis rackets and footballing volleys to pass the roll on. A Disney princess even makes an appearance.

The idea for the video all started with a discussion from the school’s parental group as Sarah Young explains: “It was put together by us parents and of course the children. We wanted something to get them all involved in, something to watch when missing their friends and something to look back on over the years.

“The idea came from one of the mums, Liz Whitehead.

“She had seen a similar video last week of children throwing a ball to each other, she mentioned it in our Facebook parent group chat and the idea just rolled from there.

“We wanted to put our own spin on it so swapped the ball for a toilet roll just to make everyone have a little bit more of a giggle with it.

More than 50 clips were stitched and edited together to the popular 90s hit, I’ll be there for you by The Rembrandts, otherwise knows as the Friends theme song.

Viewed more than 1,000 times online, the video has reached far and wide with comments from people in Dubai and parts of America.

Mrs Young added: “Everyone is taking it in their stride with the schools still closed.

“We are sharing photos together to keep us all motivated.

“The way we have all come together in this strangest of times makes me so proud to be part of such an amazing community as Fettercairn.”
