Aberdeenshire residents to raise a cup for the Queen’s birthday

A variety of events are to take place to mark the Queen's 90th birthday
A variety of events are to take place to mark the Queen's 90th birthday

A tea party to maker the Queen’s 90th birthday will be held in Aberdeen later this year.

And anyone in the region who was born in April 1926 – the same month as the monarch – is being invited to attend.

The event will be held at the Aswanley venue at Glass near Huntly and hosted by the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire James Ingleby.

Residents who will be celebrating their 90th birthdays next month should contact Mr Ingleby to request their personal invitation.

Each guest can be accompanied by a family member or carer, who can also make a request to attend on someone’s behalf.

Mr Ingleby said: “We thought it would be a lovely idea to invite people who were born in April 1926 – the same year that the Queen was born – to Aswanley to have tea together.

“We’re hoping that we’ll have around 50, 90-year-olds that will attend alongside a family member or carer.

“We will have a little bit of entertainment on the day from the community in Glass who I know are capable of putting on very professional productions.

“It is really just a celebration of the Queen’s 90th year and we thought it would be particularly appropriate to share that celebration with others who are close to her special day.

“Unfortunately we can’t invite all the 90-year-olds in Aberdeenshire as there are about 500, so this is why we chose to stick to the month of April.

“I think it’ll be a wonderful event, I’m really looking forward to it, thrilled be hosting it and I hope people register to come along as they are all more than welcome.”

Vice-chairman of the Grampian Senior Citizens Forum, Arthur George, said: “I think this is a lovely idea which I’m sure a lot of those who are eligible to come would enjoy greatly.

“It’s nice that someone has thought of doing something that will include more senior citizens and it’ll definitely be something for guests to look forward to.

“I think those who are fortunate enough to attend will also be delighted to be celebrating this birthday in the same year as the Queen.”

Anyone who wants to apply to attend the tea party should contact Fiona Hill on 01466700367, or e-mail fiona@finkspublishing.com for an application form.
