A woman was robbed in Peterhead on Tuesday.

Police are hunting a man after a 62-year-old woman was robbed in a north-east town.

The woman, who has not been named, was walking on Harbour Street in Peterhead at around 6.50am yesterday morning when a man grabbed her handbag and ran off.

She was not injured, but was left shaken.

Police said the man they want to talk to was around 17 years old and about 5ft 10in. He was slim and wearing a black hooded top, light blue jeans and white trainers.

Inspector Simon Reid said the crime could be linked to others in Buchan.

He added: “This incident was clearly very upsetting for the lady involved,” he .

“Our inquiries are ongoing and being led by our criminal investigation department supported by the local community policing team and proactive unit. I appeal to anyone who has information about this incident or who recognises the description that has been given to contact police immediately.

“Whilst such types of crime are thankfully rare in Peterhead this may be linked to recent similar incidents in the Buchan area. We are currently carrying out additional patrols to reassure the community and to respond to any concerns people may have at this time. These patrols will continue.”

A spokeswoman added that officers were following a “positive” line of inquiry.

Members of the public are asked to call Police Scotland on 101 with information.
