A teenager has appeared in court charged with being in possession of goods stolen from an Aberdeenshire outdoor sports shop.

Last week a brazen gang of thieves smashed a stolen car through the window of Out There Active Wear in Banchory, before making off “tens of thousands of pounds worth” of stock.

And yesterday 19-year-old Scott Banks appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court from custody charged with resetting a quantity of outdoor clothing.

Banks, of 16 Lewis Road, Aberdeen is alleged to have been in possession of the stolen gear at his home on Tuesday.

He is also charged with being in possession of cannabis.

The teenager denied both charges against him and will go on trial later this year.

The raid last Thursday came just days after a similar break-in at the Spar in Culter.

Thieves used a stolen black Audi Q5 before using it to smash their way through the window, allowing them to make off with thousands of pounds worth of booze.

The car had been snatched from outside a home in Inverurie in the middle of the night – but was later recovered in Bucksburn.

Last night a police spokeswoman said two stolen vehicles, which are believed to have been used in the raids, had now been recovered along with stolen goods “worth a low figure sum”.

Detective Inspector Stuart McAdam said: “Inquiries are still ongoing and I would continue to urge anyone with information about the incident in question to contact police as soon as possible.

“In particular anyone with information in relation to anyone else they may suspect is involved or outstanding property should come forward as a matter of urgency.”

He also thanked members of the public who have assisted with the investigation so far.
