Students at a performing arts school in Aberdeen have taken the right steps en route to the Royal Albert Hall later this year.

Members of Danscentre, which includes 42 youngsters aged between five and 21, have been selected to take part in the annual Dance Proms event in October.

The group submitted a video, featuring a unique work, You and Me, and were one of just 22 outfits from across Britain chosen to take part.

They will be joined in London by performers from as far afield as Vietnam and Italy and will share the RAH with high-profile luminaries including Darcey Bussell and Arlene Phillips.

Karen Berry, who teaches at the centre, said it was great to have gained new recognition.

She added: “We are delighted to be part of Dance Proms for the fourth time. It is always a brilliant experience for all involved and a fabulous showcase of young dance talent.

“Our performance at this year’s Dance Proms, You and Me, is a contemporary dance exploring how friendships change and intensify as we move from childhood to adolescence and beyond.”

And Strictly Come Dancing judge Mrs Bussell, who is a celebrity patron of the Proms, expressed delight at seeing aspiring performers unite every year.

She said: “It is a delight to see so many young dancers come together from all over the UK, Europe and even further afield to celebrate dance on the iconic Royal Albert Hall stage.

“My advice to every young dancer involved in Dance Proms is to enjoy every moment – I can’t wait to see what each performance has in store.”
