An extensive new survey, conducted by Aberdeen FC’s official supporters group, has revealed 75% back a proposed move to a new stadium at Kingsford.
Dons Supporters Together collated the survey, which saw 2,556 fans offering their opinion on all aspects of the development, including transport and parking; stadium design; match-day experience; atmosphere; and funding.
While the majority of respondents back the move, they acknowledge that challenges exist.
The availability of funding for the new complex has been widely questioned since the plans were announced, but the survey has indicated fans have faith in non-traditional streams, including the selling of stadium naming rights – a move backed by 76% of respondents.
And 40% of respondents indicated they would pledge funds themselves to help bring the idea to fruition.
Safe standing would be welcomed by 70% and 75% want an emphasis to be placed on a family-friendly experience.
Gordon Duncan, media representative of DST, stated: “It is always our intention to represent a consensus opinion of the Aberdeen fans, to give them a voice that has a positive influence on decisions that affect them.
“With such a considerable sample size and quality input from the respondents, we are sure the findings of the survey will paint a clear picture of what supporters want from a facility that is designed to serve them and their football club.”
DST representatives met with AFC to present the findings directly for consideration.
And the club’s vice chairman, George Yule, responded: “We are grateful to DST for the ongoing hard work that they undertake on behalf of our supporters.
“It is satisfying to see that the results of this comprehensive survey very much mirror the feedback that the club has received at the recent public consultations.
“As they involve such a substantial number of fans, the survey results will help assist greatly as we begin the process of putting together a more detailed application for the proposed facilities at Kingsford.
