Holidaymakers have been left furious after a flight from Aberdeen to Faro in Portugal was delayed by 38 hours.
People have been stranded at Aberdeen Airport since Thursday morning for what should have been a 6am flight, while passengers in Portugal have also been left waiting around for the return journey.
Operator Thomson Airways said the delay was due to a technical issue with the aircraft. It finally flew out of Aberdeen at 8.35pm tonight. Thomson would not say how many passengers were left in limbo.
Passengers boarded the plane ready for take-off for yesterday morning’s flight, but were taken off shortly before it was due to depart.
It is understood around 130 passengers were affected by the departing flight.
Angry passengers described the situation as a “shambles” and a “nightmare”.
Overnight accommodation for passengers and refreshment tokens were provided by the airline, but it is expected that many will launch claims for compensation.
Thomson Airways apologised in a statement. It said: “We provided affected customers with overnight accommodation and vouchers for refreshments.
“We will also be providing letters to customers with EU flight delay claim information in line with the Civil Aviation Authority’s guidelines.
“We understand how frustrating a flight delay can be and are working hard to have these flights on the way as soon as possible. We would like to thank affected passengers for their patience and understanding.”
