A shopworker was left shaken after a hooded man robbed his city centre store at knife-point while threatening to kill him.

Mushtaq Nazir feared for his life when the robber struck at a Premier store in Aberdeen on Saturday.

Yesterday, as police issued an appeal for information which could identify the culprit, Mr Nazir relived the ordeal.

He described the man’s blade as being about 10 inches long, and said he made off with hundreds of pounds in cash after emptying the till.

Mr Nazir added: “The knife was the length of my forearm, and the man’s face was covered with his hood.

“The till was full at the time, so he got away with a lot of money but I wouldn’t be able to say exactly how much.

“When he came round the back of the counter, he told me not to move or he would kill me.”

Police appealed for witnesses over the weekend as officers launched an investigation into the robbery, which took place at 3.45pm.

A spokesman said: “A male entered the shop in possession of a bladed weapon and made off with cash.

“The man responsible is described as medium build, wearing an orange waist length jacket, black trousers and black hat.

“He was last seen heading through the Castlegate.”

The owner of the shop, who did not wish to be named, confirmed that the incident was not the first time his store at 37 Union Street had been targeted by robbers.

It was the second crime there involving a knife within the space of a year.

Police were called to the 24-hour grocery outlet in the early hours of Wednesday, May 3, when two hooded men entered with a seven-inch knife.

But, on that occasion, the would-be thieves left empty-handed after a woman screamed in shock at the sight of the weapon.

And last Tuesday, A & C Smart on King Street was robbed by a man wielding a knife.

He left with £760, but police have not commented on whether the two incidents could be linked.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting incident number 2535, of 27 January.
