Stormy weather plagues north and north-east as flood alert issued

Flood alerts have been issued across Scotland.
Flood alerts have been issued across Scotland.

Chaotic and stormy weather plagued the north and north-east all of yesterday.

Parts of the Highlands and Inverness were issued with flood warnings by Sepa due to the heavy rainfall.

And although the north-east didn’t have any warnings in place, many parts of the region were hit with relentless heavy showers.

Transport was also affected by the rain as a number of rail services experienced disruption due to flooding.

Last nights, services from Glasgow to Aberdeen were experiencing”major disruption” as the line between Queen Street and Lenzie was forced to close.

The Glasgow to Inverness route was also affected by standing water and ScotRail advised that trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

The weather across Grampian is expected to be clearer today, with the Met Office predicting dry spells and a minimum temperature of 12 degrees.

Rain will continue to fall across Aberdeen after a bright morning, but more persistent warm weather is expected for the weekend.

In the Highlands, the heavy rain fall was due to turn to drizzle overnight but further outbreaks of heavy rain are predicted with a temperature of 11 degrees.

Inverness will be drier today and may even experience some bright spells.

Highs of up to 23 degrees are expected in the north over the weekend and up to 19 degrees in the north-east.
