Police inquiries into a horrific crash which left two north-east truckers dead are continuing almost four days after the tragedy took place.
Floral tributes yesterday lined the A90 Aberdeen to Ellon road near Balmedie where Rimas Kuskys of Fraserburgh and Farquhar Kennedy of Aberdeen were killed when their vehicles collided on Monday.
Last night, a police spokesman said the force is “still trying to establish what happened” during the incident.
The truck driven by Mr Kuskys, 43 – a driver for offshore equipment supplier Asco – and the Warburton’s delivery lorry driven by Mr Kennedy, 54, crashed at the Hatterseat junction at about 1.20pm.
Yesterday, one Aberdeenshire councillor who has been campaigning to have the A90 duelled from Aberdeen to Fraserburgh said she hoped the step could “stop these types of accidents”.
Work is already underway to dual the road from Balmedie to Tipperty as part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.
Conservative councillor for Ellon, Gillian Owen – who started the Why Stop at Ellon campaign – said: “It was a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to those families effected. However it highlights the number of HGVs that travel on that section the A90.
“It is fortunate that duelling for that section is under way and I hope this will stop these types of accidents.
“But it makes no sense to stop the duelling at Ellon as there are a further 16 miles of single road carriageway to Peterhead. Those who travel regularly on that road will know about the accident black spots.”
Lithunian-born Mr Kuskys had two children – Viktorija and Aurelija – with wife, Rasa, who earlier this week described her partner as “a good man” and an “amazing dad”.
