A colourful display has been organised in a Moray town to press for climate change action across the world.

Activists in Forres have organised the event for next week to coincide with a global climate strike.

A parade has been organised from Grant Park with children encouraged to either dress as their favourite animal or come with their faces painted to resemble them.

Organisers are expected to be joined by school pupils who have gone on strike during the afternoon after being inspired by campaigner Greta Thunberg.

John Lardner, who is one of the organisers, said: “People of all ages are urged to join and support the strikers on this important day as they celebrate life as we know it and urge climate change to be seen as the emergency it truly is.

“Even if people don’t feel like joining the activities then they can come along and have a conversation with one of the strikers and learn something new about climate change.

“We must take a stand to create the change we need.”

The day’s events, which will begin on Friday September 20 at 11am in Grant Park, will also include poetry readings, vegan foot to eat and beverages.

The event will culminate in choral singing led by Bill Henderson.

It will take place outside the Tolbooth following the parade, which will begin at noon.
