Two lots of roadworks get underway on the main route between Oban and Glasgow next week.

On Monday a project gets underway on the A85 at near Taynuilt and a job starts on the A82 north of Tyndrum.

An improved drainage system is going in on the A85 Oban to Perth road west of Awe Barrage near Taynuilt.

The £15,000 job, on a 0.12 mile section of road, will involve installing a new length of filter drain to take water away from the carriageway edge, reducing the chance of flooding on the road during heavy rain.

The drainage works begin on Monday and are expected to take up to five days to complete. The works will be carried out between 7am and 7pm each day. Traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day during the job.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative, said: “Our teams will work to complete the drainage improvements as quickly and safely as possible and we thank motorists for their patience in advance, and also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out.”

On Tuesday work to improve the road surface north of Tyndrum on the A82 Inverness to Glasgow road begins.

The £220,000 job across 0.7 of a mile takes place around four miles north of Tyndrum.

Works will take place between 7am and 7pm on weekdays, with no works scheduled to take place during the weekend.

A convoy system will be in use for the safety of road workers as well as motorists however this will be removed out of working hours. A 30mph speed limit will remain in place outside of working hours as traffic will be travelling over a temporary road surface.

Mr Ross said: “These works will greatly improve the road surface on this section of the A82, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption to motorists by avoiding working at the weekend, and our teams will work to complete the resurfacing as quickly and safely as possible.”
