A Lochaber charity has received an award of £1,500 to ahelp buy a brand new mobility scooter for the area.

The Gordon and Ena Baxter foundation supports charities and community causes throughout the north east and Highlands and Islands. The project has donated the award to assist in the purchasing of a new Vapor X75 scooter and is chaired by Gordon and Ena’s grandson, James Baxter.

Kay Jackson, Foundation Manager of The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation, said: “It can be very challenging for those less able to get out and about in their local area.

“Trustees were keen to support this group which has a very pro-active attitude towards assisting local residents and visitors to the area.  It’s a great community initiative.”

The Vapor X75 scooter incorporates a 360 degree swivel design for easy access and also contains large pneumatic tyres and suspension to deal with the tough terrains the Lochaber area has to offer.

Julie Wilema, Project Co-ordinator of Shopmobility Lochaber, said: “We are very grateful to The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation for their support, this scooter will make so many more areas accessible to our users.”

Shopmobility Lochaber aim to improve the lifestyle and mobility of people who require the use of a mobility scooter by delivering a free service in the provision of scooters, wheelchairs and power chairs. All of the fleets scooters and wheelchairs have names and to honour the donation from The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation, the Vapor X75 scooter will be called Baxter.
