Three new non-executive members are to join the board of crisis-hit NHS Highland – all with varying backgrounds, including policing, the nuclear industry and music.
Alexander Anderson, Jean Boardman and Philip MacRae have each been appointed for four years by health secretary Jeane Freeman.
Interim NHS Highland Chair Boyd Robertson said: ““I warmly welcome these appointments which give a timely infusion of new blood to the board.
“The appointment of new members resident in Argyll and Caithness reflects the widespread nature of the area the board serves.
“The three new members bring a wide range of skills and a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board at a time when we are beginning to address the findings of the Sturrock Report into the culture of the organisation and meeting the challenge of a sustained programme of financial recovery.”
Alexander Anderson, who has lived in Caithness for more than 40 years, has worked in the highly-regulated nuclear industry for 40 years, advising Scottish and UK governments and providing consultancy to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Jean Boardman worked in Aberdeenshire and Moray for 25 years as a music teacher, progressing to head of instrumental music service for Aberdeenshire Council.
She did a voluntary role as a Children’s Panel member in Scotland’s Children’s Hearings System and went on to study social work and embark on a new career in social care for 12 years, working in the fields of child protection and adult addictions services.
Latterly, as national co-ordinator for the Scottish Cot Death Trust, Jean worked closely with NHS staff, Procurators Fiscal, Police Scotland, Social Work and Third Sector services across Scotland.
Philip MacRae has 30 years’ experience working in policing throughout the Highlands and Islands.
He has lived and worked across many communities within the Highlands and has a track record in public sector leadership and management.
The appointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £8,416 per annum for a time commitment of one day per week.
