A male driver has been left with serious injuries after colliding with a military vehicle on the A9.
The man was travelling along the busy trunk road near Aviemore on Thursday evening when his Mercedes van collided with a 15-tonne military lorry.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at the road’s junction with the A95 at Granish shortly before 7pm. The driver was trapped in the wreckage.
No-one else was injured.
A police spokesman said: “The driver of the van was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow for treatment. His injuries are described as serious but non-life threatening.”
Police, fire and paramedics were all involved in the emergency operation which saw the road close in both directions for more than four hours.
Six fire crews were conveyed to the scene to assist in removing the injured driver from the vehicle before handing him over to on scene paramedics.
The route was closed until around 11.30pm to allow for investigations to be carried out at the scene.
The crash was one of several on HIhgland and Moray roads in a 24-hour period.
The incident occurred more than 14 hours ahead of a bus crash in the Caithness area.
The X99 Stagecoach bus service was near Dunbeath, in Caithness, at about 9am yesterday went off the road and hit a garden wall. It is understood black ice was a factor.
A Stagecoach spokeswoman said: “There were no injuries to any customers or our driver. A replacement bus was sent to Dunbeath to continue the service for customers on board.”
Meanwhile, in Inverness, traffic came to a standstill following a three-vehicle collision on Culloden Road.
The crash occurred at the junction with the B9177 Drumossie Brae around 10am, causing lengthy tailbacks.
In Moray, police are now appealing to speak to two potential witnesses following a two-vehicle crash on the A96 near Forres on Tuesday evening.
The collision involving a black Toyota GT86 and a red Citroen DS3 occurred just west of Findhorn Bridge at the junction for Kintessack around 7.25pm.
The female driver of the Citroen was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
Police Constable Hector Bryden said: “We are carrying out inquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this crash. We would urge anyone who has information and has not yet spoken to police to come forward.
“In particular we are keen to speak to the drivers of a lorry and a white Audi which were both travelling eastbound around the time just before the incident happened.
“Anyone who can help our inquiries is urged to call 101, quoting incident 3754 of 5 November.”
