Police have launched an appeal for information after two people were left with “serious” injuries yesterday following a crash on the A9.

The collision occurred at about 2.20pm near Carrbridge, with a red Nissan Qashqai and a grey Citroen C4 involved.

A 69-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police last night said they were in a “serious but stable condition”.

As a result of the crash, a section of the road was closed to enable officers to carry out investigations in an effort to establish the full circumstances leading up to the crash.

Road Policing Inspector Alistair Mackay said: “Inquiries are at an early stage and it’s important we establish exactly what happened here.

“I am appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the accident or were driving shortly before it to come forward as soon as possible.

“I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch.”

A 19-mile diversion route from Carrbridge to Dulnain Bridge and Aviemore was put in place to allow motorists to pass the closure period just north of Granish.

Two fire crews from Grantown were called to assist at the scene with cutting equipment in operation.

A spokeswoman said crews made the scene safe before departing around 4.51pm.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.
