A Highland primary school has been told make significant improvements following a recent inspection.
Kingussie Primary School and Nursery class on Ruthven Road is home to dozens of local students and aims to “create a happy and secure place for all our pupils, parents and staff and visitors” while “providing a stimulating learning environment”.
Following a recent inspection by Education Scotland, inspectors outlined a number of key strengths of the school including positive relationships between the children and their adults representing s strong sense of community.
Inspectors also found the children to be polite, friendly and eager to learn within the calm school environment.
However, a number of areas of improvements have been established to help bring the school in line with national standards.
An inspector from Education Scotland said: “As a result of our inspection findings we think that the school needs additional support and more time to make necessary improvements. We will liaise with The Highland Council regarding the school’s capacity to improve.”
Following discussions with the headteacher and a representative from Highland Council, inspectors urged the school to develop consistently high quality learning and teaching across the nursery and school which supports all children to be engaged and active in their learning.
The school has also encouraged to take steps to ensure tasks and activities provide children with increased levels of challenge whilst improving approaches to tracking and monitoring children’s progress in order to better meet the learning needs of all children and raise attainment.
Education Scotland added: “We will return to carry out a further inspection of the school within 12 months of the publication of this letter. We will discuss with The Highland Council the details of this inspection. When we return to inspect the school we will write to you as parents/carers informing you of the progress the school has made.”
