Oban’s Festival of Architecture will get under way on Friday.

The event is being organised by Oban Communities Trust and will be officially launched by Scottish Culture and Tourism Secretary Fiona Hyslop.

The festival includes the Scottish premiere of Prospect North exhibition, just back from a month-long run at the Venice Architecture Biennale, which features the stories of 15 communities from across Scotland who have used design and architecture to make a difference.

There will also be a range of “fringe” events organised by the Oban Communities Trust.

The official launch of Prospect North at Oban Festival of Architecture takes places at 3pm on Friday in The Rockfield Centre, Oban.

The exhibition, co-curated by Architecture and Design Scotland and created by Lateral North with Dualchas Architects and Soluis, uses a sculptural map of Scotland paired with cutting edge technology to bring the stories to life.

The Rockfield Centre will also be hosting two national touring exhibitions: Scotstyle and Best of the Best.

Scotstyle asks the public to vote for their favourite building from the past 100 years as part of the Festival of Architecture 2016 and Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016.

The Best of the Best exhibition highlights the past five years of award-winning buildings, places and communities as recognised by eight national organisations, including work by students, communities, designers and architects from across Scotland.

Prospect North runs July 30-August 21. Best of the Best and Scotstyle run from July 30-August 7. The exhibitions are open 1pm to 6pm, except Tuesdays.
