West Highland line trains disrupted after landslip

Train services on the West Highland line will be disrupted until next week following a landslip at Glasgow.

A railway embankment partially collapsed causing tonnes of mud and stone to be washed on to the track at Lambhill. It also weakened a footbridge over the line.

As a result all train services using the Glasgow-Anniesland via Maryhill line have been closed until Wednesday, April 12, including the Glasgow Queen Street-Crianlarich service.

Buses will take passengers to Crianlarich, stopping at all intermediate stations, and passengers can join the train there for their onward journeys to Fort William, Mallaig and Oban.

A ScotRail Alliance spokesman said: “Our team has been on site since Tuesday morning assessing the damage and making plans to repair the line.

“We will be working around the clock to get the railway open as soon as possible, but extensive structural repairs will be needed to fix the significant damage caused to the footbridge.

“In particular, we are looking at the best way to help holidaymakers travelling on the West Highland line with extra luggage, and make their journeys as smooth as possible. We ask everyone to plan ahead and arrive at the station in plenty of time.”
