The Argyll and Bute result could be a close one between the SNP and Conservatives.
Currently held by Brendan O’Hara of the SNP, the seat is being hotly contested by Conservative candidate Gary Mulvaney.
Other candidates include the former LibDem MP Alan Reid and Labour’s Michael Kelly.
From the piles of ballot papers on the tables at the count and speculation by bystanders, the Conservative vote appears to have increased in the county.
Despite heavy rain, cloud and mist helicopters bringing the ballot boxes from the islands were able to land at the count ahead of schedule.
The count is taking place at Lochgilphead Joint Campus and the two helicopters landed at the Mid Argyll Hospital heli pad before vans transported the boxes the short distance to the school.
Returning officer Cleland Sneddon said: “The landing was a bit more difficult than expected because of the cloud but we had all of the boxes before 1am which is ahead of schedule.”
A result is expected to come in for the constituency at around 5am.
