A head teacher has paid tribute to a “popular” eight year old pupil who had “enthusiasm and a sense of fun”.
Kayla MacDonald of Dunbeg, near Oban, was killed on Sunday when logs fell on top of her while on a forest walk with her grandfather Ewen MacPherson.

The little girl was playing with Mr MacPherson’s 12-year-old daughter Caitlin on Beinn Lora at Benderloch when the horrific accident took place.
Caroline Fothergill, head teacher at Rockfield Primary School in Oban, said: “The staff and pupils of Rockfield are devastated to hear of the loss of Kayla.
“Kayla was a very popular pupil of our Gaelic medium unit, and her enthusiasm and sense of fun will be hugely missed by the whole school community.
“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very difficult time.”
Kayla’s parents Karina MacPherson and Alistair MacDonald have been left devastated.
Caitlin, who was also injured, was described as being in a stable condition at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.
Logging has been taking place at the site since earlier this year, with warning signs in place and the path fenced off.
Police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out a joint investigation to establish the circumstances.
Tilhill Forestry has been carrying out work in the area. George McRobbie, managing director, said: “This is a terrible accident and we can barely imagine how the family and their friends must feel and I would like to take this opportunity to offer them our deepest condolences. Tilhill Forestry are working closely with the police, the Health and Safety Executive and Forest Enterprise Scotland as investigations into this tragic accident continue.”
