Old Daviot Wood tourist information building to be turned into office

The old tourist information building in Daviot Wood is to be given a new lease of life after being bought by Scottish businessman Tim Cocking.

Highland Council confirmed the successful sale of the site after 18 months on the market.

The building is situated just off the northbound carriageway of the A9, four miles before Inverness.

Mr Cocking, who has Highland roots, now resides in Edinburgh with his young family and is founder and managing director of care at home company, Bright Care.

The company, which has seven offices across Scotland, is now one of Scotland’s foremost providers of in-home senior care exclusively for self-funding clients.

Mr Cocking said: “Having passed this building on the A9 countless times, I was saddened to see its decline with graffiti and general lack up upkeep in recent years.

“As a business, we are very pleased to be able to take on the responsibly for significantly improving the look and feel of this important gateway site and building the building back into use again.

“We believe the building and the site have lots of long term potential.”

Bright Care will refurbish it into an office which could create about 50 new jobs in the Highlands over the next two years.

The former tourist office and picnic site has been closed since 2015 and as a result lost its public toilet amenities.

The land around the building is also in the process of being purchased by Mr Cocking to provide an opportunity for a local café or retail operator.

It is hoped that with the opening of a cafe or retail opportunity, and enough local support, there may also in time be the possibility of re-establishing the public toilets.
