A 19-year-old who died in a crash near Thurso on Saturday has been named as James Connor Cook.

The family of the teenager, from the Bettyhill area, have now issued a statement.

They said: “It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden death of our son Connor, aged 19.

“Beloved son of James and Mary, brother of Tori and Erin and friend to many in Sutherland and Caithness.”

Mr Cook, known as Connor, was the driver and sole occupant of a purple Ford Fiesta which was involved in a crash on the unclassified Hill of Forss road around half a mile from the A836 junction.

The incident was reported to police shortly before 11.10pm on Saturday.

No other vehicles were involved.

Road Policing Sergeant Alan Henderson said: “Our thoughts are with Connor’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our inquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who can help the investigation but has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.

“You can contact the Road Policing Unit in Dingwall on 101, quoting reference NJ3054/18.”
