A renowned Highland artist is to head across the Atlantic to explore and draw inspiration from the works of Canadian painter Tom Thomson.
Allan MacDonald, whose latest exhibition is based at the Kilmorack Gallery in Beauly, is using the grant bestowed to him as a recipient of the 2019 Balavoulin Art Grant to allow his travel to Ontario to study.
The grant is awarded to artists either based in or with strong connections to the Highlands.
Mr MacDonald, who studied at Edinburgh College of Art, has lived for the majority of his life on the outskirts of Inverness.
During his travels, he will extensively explore the works of Thomson, as well as the Group of Seven, whilst creating a new body of work in the process.
Later this year, Mr Macdonald’s works will be displayed at the Mall Galleries in London as part of the Discerning Eye exhibition.
